Celtic left-back Greg Taylor has emerged as a surprise target for Dinamo Zagreb, with reports in Croatia, via SunSport, linking the Scotland international to the Croatian champions.

Taylor, whose contract with the Hoops expires in the summer, is now free to negotiate with other clubs as of January 1.

Taylor’s name has reportedly been placed high on the wishlist of Fabio Cannavaro, the newly appointed manager of Dinamo Zagreb. The Italian World Cup-winning legend has been tasked with rejuvenating the club following a disappointing domestic campaign and is said to view Taylor as a priority signing for the summer.

Despite their interest, Dinamo are unlikely to make a move for Taylor in January. Instead, they plan to wait until his contract officially expires in the summer, potentially securing the 26-year-old on a free transfer or a pre-contract agreement.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has repeatedly stated his desire to keep Taylor at the club. Speaking earlier this month, Rodgers praised the defender’s importance to the squad and expressed hope that the player would sign a new deal. However, with no agreement reached and Taylor now free to speak to other clubs, the chances of him staying at Parkhead appear increasingly slim.

Taylor has been a mainstay in Celtic’s defence since his arrival from Kilmarnock in 2019, contributing to multiple Premiership titles and cup triumphs. His departure would leave a significant gap in the Hoops’ left flank, with Rodgers likely needing to dip into the transfer market for a replacement.

The speculation surrounding Taylor’s future adds another layer of intrigue to Celtic’s January transfer plans. With the player now at a crossroads, his decision will shape not only his own career but also Celtic’s squad planning for the second half of the season and beyond.

  1. I believe that, if Brendan Rodgers really wanted to keep Greg Taylor, the Board would have ensured it happened by now. It would appear, therefore, that Rodgers has, been somewhat disingenuous in his public remarks and there has to be something else going on behind the scenes that we’re obviously not privy to as yet.

    • Or the player knows we wish to upgrade the position and he knows he would be 2nd choice.

Or he is 27 and wants to try something else.

Or he believes the contract on offer is insufficient
