STEPHEN WELSH has broken cover being the first Celtic player to discuss the potential appointment of Eddie Howe.

We say potential but it’s CeltsAreHere’s understanding that Eddie WILL be the next Celtic manager.

Players have kept tight-lipped to this point but as Stephen Welsh gets set to go on his summer break, he reflected on his breakthrough season with the Hoops and what the future may hold.

“We’re all pretty calm about what happens next. The club will deal with it the way they should.” Welsh told SunSport.

“Obviously Eddie Howe was a fantastic manager when he was at Bournemouth over the last few years and he fits the criteria.

“He plays good football from what I saw, so it is exciting more than anything.

“We’re all positive about what the future holds, regardless of whether it’s a new manager and coaches or whatever.

“We’ll be ready to work hard for them and do well.

“But I think it’s natural to think they will be watching games like this one.

“And if you have an idea a new face is coming in, you want to go out and prove how good you are, prove you should be in the team next season.

“That’s really all that you can do as a player.”

Mentioning Eddie Howe by name is interesting. To this point, players have declined to talk about any other manager while John Kennedy was in the hot seat.

Now the season is over and we’re looking to the future, there’s a change of tact and the news of Eddie’s arrival might have filtered through to the players.

The Celtic players who want to be at the club next season are surely buzzing at the prospect of Eddie Howe becoming their next manager.

The Englishman has built himself a top reputation within the game and the chance to show what he can do at a top level club like Celtic has captured the imagination of the support.
