Celtic are about to feel the pinch from the annual fixture pile-up on the run-in to the winter break all the way up to January. Lazio are no different with fixture problems and Simone Inzaghi has confirmed he has up to five stars still waiting to be assessed before the game tomorrow on top of two suspensions.
The Lazio boss was taking part in a cagey Q&A as reported by Record Sport when he took questions on Celtic fan numbers, the importance of a win tomorrow and the next transfer window. When asked about injuries and his squad the lesser-known Inzaghi brother confirmed some selection headaches (If he is been truthful)
“I’m still not sure. We’re coming off three matches in quick succession with a few problems. Those who definitely won’t be there are Radu, Marusic and Cataldi, who are suspended.”
“Correa, Caicedo and Leiva will have to be evaluated. Caicedo took a hit to his shoulder, at first we feared a fracture but it’s severe bruising. Correa took a knock in training and Leiva is fatigued. Immobile and Lulic are also a bit fatigued but I’m hopeful for them.”
“The other three will have to be monitored, we’ve expended a lot physically and mentally. We’ve got the results though and tomorrow I’ll put out the best possible team to play a good match.”
Last week Neil Lennon said Scott Brown was doubtful for the semi-final cup game at Hampden only for the Celtic skipper to start the game and come off the field with 2 goals to his name. Maybe Inzaghi is playing the same game. He was criticised for fielding a weakened team at Celtic Park and accused of not taking the Europa League seriously by the Italian press.
