It wasn’t a good day for the men but the Celtic women thrashed Spartans 5-1 on Sunday to keep in touch with the top two.

The girls are currently third in the table but have bounced back with two wins after losing to Glasgow City after the restart.

Five goals from four different scorers kept the Hoops five points off the pace at the top of the table but they’re beginning to gel and really find their feet since the restart.

Anna Filbey and Sarah Teagarden both got their first Celtic goals at Ainslie Park while vice-captain Chloe Craig was hand for a brace after Sarah Ewens opened the scoring.

The next big test for the ladies come at Celtic Park on Wednesday where they take on Glasgow rivals Rangers. The Gers ladies are five points better off than Celtic and it’s absolutely vital Fran Alonso’s team go all out for the win.

No disrespect to K-Park but perhaps playing in Paradise could give the Hoops a big edge on the evening.

It’s exciting times for the women’s game at Celtic.
