Brendan Rodgers admitted he is “greedy” for more after Celtic’s goalless draw with Hibernian at Celtic Park, reflecting on the difference between his side this season and the one that stormed to the Premiership title in 2024/25.
The Irishman acknowledged that last season his team were “flying” in attack, but stressed this is a different group of players who are still developing. Celtic had 26 attempts on goal against Hibs but lacked the finishing touch that defined their play a year ago.
Despite the frustrations, Rodgers pointed to positives in the team’s defensive strength. Celtic have conceded just one goal in the league so far, and the manager believes the attacking instincts of his new-look squad will grow as the season progresses.
Rodgers also highlighted the role of summer signings, insisting that as they bed into the system and build chemistry, the sharpness in front of goal will come.
He said: (RecordSport), “I’m always greedy. I like to do better.
“Last year we were flying but it’s a different group and circumstance and management of where we are but in terms of mentality we aren’t conceding many.
“New players are coming in and understanding how we’re working. You can see the connections are getting there and that instinct to finish will come.
“At this moment I’m pleased but also greedy to be better.”
Rodgers’ assessment reflects both his frustration at failing to win and his belief that the team are building towards something stronger. While last season’s free-scoring Celtic are yet to reappear, the defensive base gives him confidence.
Supporters may find it harder to share that optimism after another game without a goal, especially with Hearts moving ahead at the top of the table. The comparisons with last season highlight how much more clinical Celtic need to be to maintain their grip on the Premiership.
The Irishman’s patience with new players is clear, but time is not unlimited. Rodgers knows results must follow quickly if the mood in the stands is to improve.
For now, he is trying to balance encouragement with demand, reminding everyone that Celtic are still unbeaten but insisting they must rediscover the edge that made them champions.

The talk of being able to win Europa is deluded. I doubt we could win the Conference league unless we had every game at home even then we couldn’t beat Kairat at home.
