St Mirren star Ryan Flynn has joined his boss Goodwin, insisting Celtic shouldn’t have had a penalty which all but guaranteed them the victory in Paisley on Wednesday night.

Greg Taylor was fouled in the box by Flynn but the St Mirren player insists it wasn’t a penalty but was careful with his words.

Jim Goodwin made it clear he thought Taylor had made a meal of it and while there was contact, there wasn’t enough for the Celtic defender to crumble.

Flynn believes it was a pivotal decision and while he wouldn’t make the verbal claim Taylor dived, he did let it be known the decision went against the home side.

“Second half I felt it was a bit flat for us. We weren’t quite at it as we had been in the first half.” Flynn told RecordSport.

“They got the decision for the penalty and it was very disappointing to quickly concede a third and a fourth. We shouldn’t allow that to happen.

“The referee gave the decision and I didn’t think he was going to give anything. I tried to make sure I pulled away and not touch him at all.

So, yes, he’s made the decision and there’s not much I can say. It was a big moment. The big decision has gone against us.”

Flynn went onto say he believes Celtic captain could have been sent off for a challenge on him in the first half. The fact we can’t even recall the incident makes that highly unlikely.

“I thought there was also the challenge in the first half as well on me (by Scott Brown). I don’t think he even got booked. It could even have been a red.”

Celtic were the better side on the night, even in the first half when the whole game was monotonous. The Hoops controlled the game and gave the home side very little.

The penalty decision looked correct, and it’s easy to blame others.

Celtic made it three wins out of three in the SPFL and now head to St Johnstone on Sunday hoping to make it four.
