Adam Idah’s winner in Saturday’s Scottish Cup final had noticeable shades of Tom Rogic 2017 surrounding it.
In a cagey game which was level going into the closing stages, the Irishman popped up with a goal arguably as memorable as the Aussie midfielder’s to bring the famous old trophy back to Parkhead.
All those years ago, Rogic’s strike ensured a remarkable invincible treble success. Players such as Scott Sinclair, Stuart Armstrong, and Moussa Dembele were all written into the Celtic history books with their contributions that season, but a name fans won’t particularly remember from the campaign is Cristian Gamboa.
Signed from West Brom in the summer of 2016, the right-back made 31 Hoops appearances, 21 of which came during the invincible season.
He never instated himself in the team ahead of Mikael Lustig and moved to Bochum in 2019.
With the German side, he has found stability and over the weekend, was involved in an astonishing comeback.
After finishing 16th in the Bundesliga, Bochum had to play in the relegation play-off match. They took on Dusseldorf and in the first leg at home, were beaten 3-0.
All hope looked lost going into the away tie but remarkably, they won 3-0 on the night and triumphed on penalties to maintain their status in the German top-flight.
A breathtaking comeback, Gamboa did stay on the bench for both matches but this season has played his part, making 23 appearances across all competitions.
The 34-year-old is a valuable member of the squad and will now look forward to another Bundesliga season as he enters the last year of his Bochum contract.
