Celtic need to offload a lot of dead weight this summer due to inept recruitment by Brendan Rodgers and Lee Congerton. The pair presided over some mystifying transfers that Celtic are still paying the price for now, even after both have departed.

Marvin Compper is the obvious one that everybody brings up but there’s another man who most of us have forgotten about. Perhaps Rodgers and Congerton’s most pointless signing (through no fault of his own) has to be the acquisition of Yousouf Mulumbu at the start of the season.

With Scott Brown struggling with injury and Celtic in need of a holding midfielder – instead of doing their homework they went for Mulumbu who had left Kilmarnock after the previous campaign. The player did well for Killie but to bring him to Celtic was desperation. Not only did we sign the midfielder, not to play him but we gave Mulumbu a two-year deal. Something again I can’t wrap my head around.

It would appear Mulumbu and his reps were wise and knew Celtic had very few options and they held out for two years instead of one.

The result has been a player who has managed just 155minutes of football for Celtic with only two yellow cards to show for it. The midfielder was then sent back to Kilmarnock on-loan in January but he will be due back with the Celtic squad for pre-season.
