One of the most bizarre news stories you’ll hear this week is forgotten midfielder Kundai Benyu is set to star for Zimbabwe even though he hasn’t played for Celtic in over 12 months.

The youngster was brought in as a project by Rodgers to loan out, but he quickly fell out of favour and went out on loan to Oldham where after a poor start also fell out of favour. Since then, we’ve only heard about the young midfielder getting a few games here and there with the Celtic reserves, but he was nowhere to be seen on Monday at Rugby Park when the reserve side beat Kilmarnock.

Apparently, the Zimbabwe coach is hailing Benyu’s call up as a coup for the national team, and that’s clearly down to who he has a contract with other than football reasons at this point.

Benyu didn’t even head out on loan in January when many expected he would do so. His Celtic career looks over before it really began and will go down as a statistic on the Lee Congerton hall of fame.
