FORMER Celtic hero and Barca beater, Fraser Forster has been hung out to dry by his current manager after speculation the player was ready for a 2019 comeback with the St Mary’s side.

Forster has had a nightmare at Southampton! After initially becoming a top star for the English side after his £10million sale from Celtic, the Geordie sustained a Patella rupture in March 2015 which saw him out of action until January 2016.

The goalkeeper who had signed a new long term deal with the club became their number one upon return and made 20 Premier League appearances last season, but a string of erratic and below par performances meant the Englishman would get benched.

Southampton made Alex McCarthy their number one with Forster playing backup. Then things got worse in the summer when goalkeeper Angus Gunn was brought in to be Southampton’s number 2, leaving Fraser in no man’s land.

Talk of a Southampton revival for the ex-Celt was shot down quickly by his boss, Ralph Hasenhüttl who told the media Fraser will continue to play for the under 23s until he gets a move.

“It can be that Fraser can take a game in the Under-23s, because he needs to get back in a position where he is an option for other clubs maybe, and that is what we try to force in the future,” Hasenhuttl told MailSport.

The 30-year-old is on big money at St Mary’s, is he just happy collecting his pay or does he want to get back to playing?
