Two English Championship clubs are reportedly keeping tabs on former Celtic winger Liel Abada, as the Hoops’ struggles in attack continue to bite.
Abada left Celtic in March 2024, joining Charlotte FC in MLS in a £10 million move.
The 24‑year‑old has since scored 13 goals in 60 appearances in the United States, showing enough quality to attract suitors back across the water and he’s still relatively young.
Abada arrived in Glasgow for around £3.5 million, and in both of his full seasons at Parkhead he hit double figures in all competitions, scoring ten goals in each campaign. His ability to contribute goals and create chances made him an important part of Ange Postecoglou’s attacking system, particularly with his direct running and intelligent movement at the backpost. For a Celtic side now desperately seeking creativity and goals, that sort of output is something they have sorely lacked this season.
According to Sky Sports, Championship leaders Coventry City and 17th-place Swansea City are both interested in bringing Abada in.
Celtic’s current front‑line has managed precious few goals, and the timing of support for Wilfried Nancy’s tenure remains precarious.
Fans have watched opportunities go begging at Parkhead, and the team’s overall lack of threatening quality in the final third has been clear across a run of disappointing results.
With players like Yang Hyun‑jun and others filling wide positions without consistent returns, the idea of a proven creator and scorer such as Abada would be nice to have.
No one is advocating a return, but someone who puts in those numbers would be great to have.
