CHARLIE MULGREW has made some astonishing claims about the latter part of his Celtic career, accusing Ronny Deila’s sports nutritionist of being ‘brainwashed’.

The former Celtic utility man and now Blackburn hero spoke about what went on during his time under Ronny and how the diet he was put on by the manager and his team put his heart at risk.

“The dietician who came in was brainwashed to think that was the way to do it. It is hard when someone is brainwashed to then say ‘that isn’t working for me’ because they say ‘you need to do it more’.” he told the Herald.

“It was the caveman diet – high fat, just meat. My body fat was low, I was ripped. But I was injured at the time so it was easy for me to do. When I went back training I had a lack of energy and my cholesterol was through the roof.”

Charlie went on to say that due to heart attacks being common in his family he stopped the diet’s immediately and done his own thing.

Ronny was a big believer in diet being key for his players. He was mocked and derided by the press for banning chips from the canteen and fizzy juice.

Mulgrew was back in Hoops just a week back when he took part in Scott Brown’s testimonial and has been doing well with Blackburn, helping them get promoted back to the Championship.
