FORMER Celtic frontman John Hartson believes Celtic should go back in for summer target Scott McKenna in January – even after his ridiculous challenge that should have seen the player walk at Celtic Park on Sunday.

Speaking through his column in the Evening Times the Welshman thinks the biggest thing Celtic need is a ‘no nonsense’ defender.

‘I actually really like the boy as a player although who knows if Odsonne Edouard feels the same.

‘I actually think McKenna is an old-fashioned centre-half who is winning the ball now matter what – and there have been many times when we have thought that is exactly what Celtic could do with”

Celtic confirmed they had made a bid for Scott in the summer of around £3million with Aberdeen rating him close to £10million.

The Dons even knocked back a £4.5million bid from Aston Villa.

There will be less Celtic fans convinced he can do a job for the club, especially not near the prices quoted by Aberdeen.

Had he made that lunge in a Celtic jersey – he would be sitting the next game out.

Many believe McKenna could go for around £7million if they were really to test the Dons.

However, if the player is currently happy where he is – they can ask for whatever they like.

  1. I do hope so John i do hope we get two or three in before January window a CF and a CH and one for MF so we can get them up to speed just in case this January window goes like summer window when we had a very silly boy spitting the dummy out and that upset the rest of the squad…..
