This weekend, Celtic return to action in the league as they face off against in-form side Motherwell at Celtic Park.

The Lanarkshire side has enjoyed a decent run of form over the last month or so, with victories over Hearts, Aberdeen and Dundee United, as well as picking up a point away from home at Easter Road last Saturday.

Going into this weekends game, their preparation might have taken a slight hit with the news of contract talks between the club and a former Celt breaking down, which could see the striker depart the club.

According to Sun Sport, former Celtic man Tony Watt looks set to exit the club in the summer when his contract expires, after talks between both parties ended.

The 27-year old has enjoyed one of the best spells of his career with the Well over the past year or so, which has seen him score nine goals already this campaign. So, it was largely expected that Watt would sign a new deal with the Fir Park side.

However, talks appear to have broken down.

The reports also suggest that there isn’t thought to be any sort of fallout at the club, with talks ending in an ‘amicable’ manner.

Although Watt will likely continue to play under Graham Alexander with that news, you can help but think that will offer a slight blow to those at the club who would have been hoping that the frontman was signing a new deal to stay in Lanarkshire.

It has been good to see Watt back enjoying his football in a settled environment. So hopefully, come the end of the season, we can see him continue in that sort of environment – whether that is with Motherwell or elsewhere.
