Former Celtic midfielder and assistant manager Peter Grant has departed his role as head coach of Scottish Championship side Dunfermline Athletic.

Grant took up the role as boss at East End Park, after a season with relegated Alloa Athletic in the same division last campaign.

It had been far from a good start for the 56-year old, who was still waiting for his first win in the cinch Championship, 12 games into the league season and finding themselves at the bottom of the table well adrift of the play-off places.

Before taking up the Dunfermline role in the summer, Grant was at one stage also linked with a return to Parkhead as a possible assistant manager to the then linked Eddie Howe.

Of course, we know what happened with that situation as Ange Postecoglou went on to become the club’s next manager, and Howe still remains without a club to this date.

Although his departure was coming, given the disappointing start to life at the Pars, it is rarely ever nice to see a former player lose his job at another club.

Hopefully, the 1995 Scottish Cup winner can make his way back into the game at some point in another role.
