FRANK MCAVENNIE has been left unimpressed by the report detailing Greg Taylor is currently negotiating a new contract with the club.

When the Daily Record published their exclusive and revealed the news on Tuesday night fans were taken by surprise.

Prior to being sidelined with a shoulder injury, the Scottish left-back seemed to be Ange Postecoglou’s first choice but many fans did not agree with this.

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie revealed his thoughts on the situation;

“You don’t want me to say what I really think.

“It’s one of them, he’s coming back in after injury and I don’t know if he suits the system.

“I won’t have a go at someone who is after a new contract but I would rather see signings than extensions.

“I’ve criticised the full-backs so often this season and I stand by that. I think we need new ones.

“That’s just a personal opinion from me. All power to Taylor if he gets offered that deal.

“But personally, I want to see some movement in January.”

The former Celtic striker would rather Celtic spent more money on full-backs rather than continue to use Taylor as the first choice. In the summer, Celtic spent money on Juranovic and Scales.

With funds limited at Celtic, it could be a case of using what they currently have in the left-back position so they can spend money elsewhere in the team.

Ultimately, Ange is working with the players day in day out, so he knows better than anyone as to who is good enough and who simply isn’t.
