Oh Hyeon-gyu is preparing for a return to Glasgow as Genk get set to face Rangers in the Europa League, and the former Celtic striker has already made his presence felt off the pitch.
On the eve of the game, Genk took to their Instagram story to post a photo of Oh and his teammates training under the lights at Ibrox.
The session was part of the standard UEFA routine, with away sides given the chance to familiarise themselves with the stadium before a European fixture. For Celtic fans, though, seeing Oh back in Glasgow colours, even for a rival’s opposition, will have been a strange sight.
The 24-year-old left Celtic in the summer of 2024 to join Belgian side Genk, where he has continued to develop his game. His name has been in the headlines recently after a failed move to VfB Stuttgart, with reports in Germany claiming the transfer collapsed following issues raised during his medical.
Despite that setback, Oh has remained focused and is now looking to make an impact in Europe.
Facing Rangers at Ibrox will give him a chance to remind Scottish football of his ability. During his time at Celtic, Oh showed flashes of promise but struggled for consistent minutes behind Kyogo Furuhashi.
He did, however, score important goals in domestic competitions and left Parkhead with medals to his name.
Now, leading the line for Genk, he returns to Glasgow with added experience and a point to prove. Posting his training clips ahead of kick-off sent a clear message, Oh is ready and eager to play a role in one of the standout fixtures of the opening round. Rangers will be well aware of the threat he poses when the whistle blows.
