Davie Provan is about as popular at Celtic Park as Brendan Rodgers is at the moment. If this was last year, that would have been a compliment to the Sky Sports commentator – now, not so much.

The pundit continues to put down Celtic and the Scottish game in general for his paymasters and so he doesn’t look like a fool with all the English Premier League sycophants he hangs about with.

Using his column we reported how he disparaged Lazio and played down Celtic’s victory against the Italians on match day three of the Europa League.

It’s clear to see where the former Celt’s bread is buttered and why he carries message between Brendan Rodgers and the Celtic support.

Provan claims when he spoke to Brendan, he gave him an honest answer as to why he left.

“Brendan Rodgers told me he was in a no-win situation in Glasgow. The more he hoovered up trophies, the more English cynics saw the Scottish Premiership as a poor league with no opposition.” Provan told SunSport.

“Accused of betrayal by some Celtic fans, Rodgers’ influence now sees Leicester flying in the EPL. While he wouldn’t expect a warm reception at Celtic Park anytime soon, the record books don’t lie.”

Celtic fans have moved on since February but when things like this come up it’s worth discussing to a certain extent.

If Rodgers was worried about how he was perceived down south then why take the job in the first place? It boils down to loyalty with Celtic fans, and while Brendan May have thought he was in a no-win situation – it clearly reveals how much he just didn’t care about winning for the club and support. Winning at Celtic to him, in the end became a burden. He’s a very good manager, he delivered some great times but he was not and will never will be one of us.

  1. Davie Provan forgets that 42000 turned out for his testimonial which I’m not even sure he would have been normally due in 1987, having been at Celtic less than 10 years. What about the loyalty the club and the support showed him at that time? Shameless.

  2. He came and we got seven trophies yeh he fecked of at the wrong time (or did he) Lenny has us playing really well but under Brendon an invincible treble ,come on guys How good wis that
