Former Celtic academy kid Aidan Borland has made his senior debut for English Premier League side Aston Villa.
The 17-year-old moved South last summer in a deal worth around £300,000 (Transfermarkt).
One of the most highly rated players of his age group, Borland has meteorically risen through the ranks at Villa and made his first appearance for their first team last night.
Away at Wycombe Wanderers in the EFL Cup, Borland was introduced by manager Unai Emery with just under half an hour to go.
He caught the eye in his cameo as his team went on to secure a 2-1 victory on the road.
The midfielder will hope his appearance on Tuesday evening is the first of many in a Villa shirt.
He took a risk by moving away from home at the tender age of 16, but so far, it has paid off.
The Scotland youth international is thriving in Birmingham but is yet another talented player who departed Celtic in the infancy of his career.
Borland, along with the likes of Ben Doak, Barry Hepburn, and Liam Morrison, completed a move to a big club early on in his playing days.
Unlike the trio who moved to Liverpool and Bayern Munich, though, Borland’s switch has gone according to plan so far. He still a wealth of work to carry out, however, if he is to become a regular at Villa Park.
