Former Celtic boss Ronny Deila has lifted the lid on the ‘painful’ moment seven officials missed the call which stopped a famous treble in its tracks.

In a sit down interview with The Times Deila spoke about his time at Celtic and the pitfalls he ran into along the way.

Deila has spoken several times about his two years at the club and the handball incident in the Scottish Cup Semi-Final is still a very sore spot for Ronny.

Celtic were cruising to victory and looked to have just about sealed it when ICT player Josh Meekings blatantly handballed a shot – saving it from hitting the back of the net within eyeshot of two SFA officials; neither one seen it.

ICT rallied in the second half and put Celtic out of the competition denying Celtic a treble under Ronny.

It may seem trivial now that we have bagged two trebles in two seasons but it hurt at the time and it still hurts Deila.

“You cannot say for certain,” Ronny told the Times.

“But it was very painful, not getting that treble. There were seven referees at that match at Hampden and they all missed that handball. It was very tough to take. You don’t know what would have happened in the final but missing out on the treble in this way was painful.

“We had a very strong team in that 2014-15 season. Once we got going we were very hard to beat. The team didn’t know how to lose, it didn’t think about losing. But we were denied that treble and it is history now.”

As ‘Honest Mistakes’ go, this is up there as one of the worse!.
