Former Celtic defender Jackie McNamara has major questions about the Celtic recruitment drive in the summer.
The player turned pundit believes the club brought in too many players who weren’t wanted at their old club and it’s a reason why we’re struggling.
Jackie cites Shane Duffy, Albian Ajeti and Moi Elyounoussi as examples of players who were unwanted at their club’s who Celtic have picked up; two of the three being on loan.
“You’re paying a fortune for Duffy to come up here on loan.” McNamara told 67HH podcast.
“Bitton’s a sitting midfielder – how’s he playing in front of him?
“Duffy’s an international football player for Ireland.
“There are so many things that aren’t quite right in the team.
“If you’re going to change the manager, I’d want somebody that’s on the way up. Same with the players.
“Barkas, yes, you’d argue he was on the way up.
“But the likes of Duffy, he’s not been good enough for Brighton and they’ve wanted him out.
“Ajeti at West Ham, Elyounoussi at Southampton.
“There are three players who have not been deemed good enough at three teams in England.
“So, how are they good enough for Celtic at the moment?
“We need players who are on the way UP.
“And if you’re going to change the manager, you’d want someone on the way up as well. New ideas, freshness.”
We can get where Jackie is coming from to a certain extent but Moi Elyounoussi has been one of our top performers in many games this season. He has been inconsistent but on his game, he has been someone who has taken the team forward.
In general, though, we had Fraser Forster in last season with his club not interested in keeping him and we all know how well that worked, the theory isn’t really there and we believe the former Celt has used it to have a go at players he doesn’t fancy.
Players not being wanted by one club can be a revelation at another.
Celtic are going through a very bad spell and people are looking for what’s gone wrong.
The manager has to take a lot of the blame but as we’ve seen from other ex-Celts, Neil Lennon’s credentials aren’t properly up for debate.
I said this months ago on several sites, when everyone else was raving about what a good transfer window! Whoever scouted these players wants sacking, ajeti lazy, fat and unfit, falls over nearly every time he’s tackled. Eluseless scores the odd goal but general team play is sh*t. Duffy total lack of positional sense, makes rash tackles. None good enough for CELTIC.
