Former Celtic recruitment chief Nicky Hammond could be set for a lucrative opportunity at Newcastle Utd according to MailSport.

Hammond had a short lived Celtic career, coming in under Neil Lennon and attempting to clean up Lee Congerton’s mess.

After the disaster of the 20/21 lockdown season, Hammond was moved on and left the club in the summer before Ange Postecoglou came in.

Eddie Howe was on a summer trajectory to join Celtic before he bottled it at the eleventh hour – now the pair could be playing fantasy football manager in January as they look to take advantage of the club’s new wealth.

Hammond was part of the setup who really failed with recruitment in the final season. He had his part to play in the Vasilis Barkas deal among other failed deals.

Celtic are moving into the January window with no focal point when it comes to transfers. As far as we’re led to believe there’s no one man in charge of recruitment.

Ange is seemingly having a big say if the news about a potential trio coming in from the J-League are true.

The structure at Celtic is something that needs looked at. Dom McKay wanted to implement his own strategy before leaving his post after 72 days.
