BRENDAN RODGERS famously tried to bring him to Celtic just six months into the Irishman’s tenure at the club, but it now appears one time Parkhead target Steven Caulker could be heading for another strange career move.

The big defender knocked back Celtic at the time because he admitted he wasn’t mentally ready to play for a club the stature of Celtic after suffering from depression and having struggles with alcohol and gambling.

The defender surprised many when he signed for Dundee last year. At the time, Caulker admitted he was ready to concentrate on his football again.

Last season he helped his Dundee side avoid relegation to the Championship but then in another surprising move, he cancelled his contract just hours before the transfer deadline.

This prompted many to think he had an offer lined up from another club that would benefit from not paying Dundee a fee for his services but it has been over two weeks and he is yet to sign for a new club.

However, today’s rumours suggest the defender is ready to make another radical career switch and head to the Ukranian league.

According to rumours down South, the former Dundee, QPR and Liverpool man is training with Arsenal Kiev ahead of a potential move.

The club sits last in the Ukranian league and are certainly in need of some defensive reinforcements. Is Caulker ready to swap an SPFL dogfight for a Ukranian one? It all seems a little bizarre.

Some Celtic fans were advocating bringing the player in on a free transfer for six months as cover, giving him a chance to prove himself but it seems Brendan Rodgers has gone off the idea completely.
