Former Celtic hero Chris Sutton believes that Michael Beale’s comments about Ange Postecoglou lacked class.

Ever since Beale arrived at Ibrox, the former QPR boss has done nothing but speak about the Celtic boss and his title rivals even though they currently trail the league leaders by nine points.

Postecoglou has taken these sneering comments in his stride, especially after he was dubbed as being ‘lucky’ which he seemed to enjoy due to the spending power which the club has even though the net spend since he arrived isn’t too much of a gap.

The Celtic boss has silenced all his critics since he arrived in Glasgow as Beale becomes the third boss he has faced from Ibrox as he continues to build and assemble a team that is becoming increasingly special and relentless.

“Now, unable to find ways of unsettling Celtic on the pitch, there have been one or two attempts off it at somehow undermining their achievements,” said Chris Sutton speaking in the [Daily Record].

“Rangers manager Michael Beale opined that Postecoglou was a lucky man due to the spending power at his disposal. Livingston boss David Martindale spoke at the start of this week about the massive gulf in finances which gives Celtic the edge. Martindale is right. Postecoglou does have a pound for every penny he and others have got.

“Beale’s also right. He’s right that the Aussie is lucky to work for a club that is so well run and has a sharp business model to get their finances in top order. That provides for a manager who then signs gems to generate profit in sales. And gets into the Champions League to gather even more dough.

“But, whether that lucky jibe from Beale was an attempt to belittle Postecoglou’s achievements as a coach or rattle him and Celtic, it smacked of a real lack of class. Within the game, I think many managers will have raised eyebrows at Beale’s lack of self awareness, especially after the way he left QPR.”

It’s very ironic that this is the route that the Rangers boss wants to go down when speaking of Celtic’s achievements. It was never in the conversation as he watched Neil Lennon’s Celtic side win two league titles while he was part of the Rangers coaching team.

Instead of focusing on his own club’s worries at this point in time which sees them miles off the top in the title race along with two first-team players out of contract, he has focused his attention on belittling the Scottish champion’s achievements.

If he wants to concentrate his focus on Postecoglou’s Celtic he is welcome to do so as they continue to pick up routine wins and fight for a treble.

  1. Fat Boy Beale, chose The Rankers himself. Obviously he knew nothing of the state of financial mess they are in. No money, and monitored by UEFA, and a clueless manager, who seems empty in the brain cell department. Career choice is yours, you chose – good luck with your failure. Where are you off to next?
