CHARLIE MULGREW admitted he was shocked to find out his former teammate and good friend Scott Brown signed for Aberdeen.

The Celtic captain will officially end his 14 year stay at the club when the curtain comes down on this season.

He has been an iconic player for the club and there were plenty of us who thought he would finish his career at Celtic, including Charlie.

Speaking to SunSport, Mulgrew spoke of his surprise:

“To be honest, I always thought Broony would be at Celtic for life.

“When the news broke it took me by surprise because I just didn’t see him leaving.

“He’s been at the club for so long it’s like he’s in with the bricks.

“Broony obviously started his career at Hibs, but after 14 years at Celtic it’s hard to imagine him wearing another team’s jersey now.

“Clearly the opportunity to become a player/coach with his mate Stephen Glass has been too good for him to turn down.

“Broony must look at it as a chance to make a clean break and try something new, and you have to respect that.

“He’s done so much at Celtic and become an iconic figure.

“While he’s leaving the club now I think Scott’s someone who will be remembered forever and go down as one of their greatest-ever captains.

“He achieved so much in his time at Celtic and that’s never going to be forgotten. He’s a proper legend now, there’s no doubt about it.”

It’s going to be a big adjustment for Celtic fans seeing Scott Brown in anything else but a Celtic jersey.

Scott will take up a player/coach role with the Pittodrie club and split his time between backroom staff duty and playing time.

There will come a time next season when Broony faces off against Celtic which will certainly be something to see.

Hopefully, when Brown does come up against Celtic next term, he’s having an off day.
