Former Celtic midfielder Peter Grant has reckons that the games players face when in training under Ange Postecoglou will be the most difficult they face.

Grant has been full of praise for the squad which Postecoglou has assembled at Parkhead and insists that he isn’t being ‘disrespectful’ to other teams in the Scottish Premiership but instead honest as he firmly believes the training pitch at Lennoxtown will be ‘more competitive’ than the competition they face in the league.

The Hoops have been in terrific form this season having only lost one league match in their previous 58 matches. That defeat came to St Mirren who they will go up against this weekend in Paisley having secured the first silverware of the season after beating Rangers 2-1 in the final of the Viaplay Cup.

Grant thinks that Postecoglou’s side are putting in that hard work during the week in training and then reaping the rewards come the weekend which sees them have a nine point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

“Celtic’s training pitch is more competitive than most of the games that they play,” said Grant speaking on [BBC Sportsound].

“That’s not being disrespectful to anyone else – that’s fact.

“If you look at that 22-25 man squad, on that training pitch it must be really competitive if you’re going to play with the standards they are setting each other.

“That’s the way it should be. If you’re a top side then your hardest games are during the week, like at Celtic.

“If they are training properly and doing their business properly, you can see that in the way that they play.

“That tells you about the training ground ethic and the enjoyment for these boys is matchday – the hard work gets done every other day.”

Everything is starting to come together for Celtic in the business end of the season as there will be one huge push towards the end of the season.

Postecoglou may look to utilise the squad even further and give some players minutes who haven’t featured in recent weeks due to the schedule.
