SHAUN MALONEY has left Hibernian with immediate affect months after taking over at Easter Road.

Hibernian have not been in great shape but Shaun has not had much time to turn things around at the club. The Easter Road side sold Martin Boyle in January and then Shaun lost Kevin Nisbet to a longterm injury.

It’s been a difficult period for the club, but many felt Shaun needed a full pre-season and some of his own players in to make a real difference in the side.

As it happens, the defeat to Hearts in the semi-final at Hampden on Saturday was enough to see him get the boot.

Shaun had spent years with Roberto Martinez as part of the Belgium setup and helped coach some top players. Taking the Hibs role was his first venture into management and it’s ended disastrously before it even got started.

Hibs wrote:

Executive Chairman Ronald J Gordon commented: “Our hope in appointing Shaun Maloney as a young, highly regarded coach was that he would help us take the club forward, but ultimately it didn’t work out.

“We thank Shaun and his coaching staff for all their hard work and efforts and wish them all the best for the future.”

It’ll be interesting to see the former Celtic star’s next move and where he ends up in the game. He has a great football mind and can be an asset to a lot of clubs under the right circumstances.
