Former Celtic hero Emilio Izaguirre has stated he would still be at Celtic if it hadn’t been for a scamming agent who cost the player £300k.

The left-back was in his second spell at Celtic and looked like he might be staying on when he left the club with no ceremony.

It was his first spell at the club where Emilio became a fan favourite, the Honduran no stranger to singing a Celtic song or two in front of the cameras.

His second spell was uneventful but he got some decent game time with Kieran Tierney being injured for a large part of his final season.

Speaking a year on from his Celtic Park exit, the defender admits he might still have been at the club if he wasn’t scammed.

“A serious situation happened to me in Scotland and that’s why I returned.” Izzy told SunSport.

“I would have stayed at Celtic and my aim was to remain in Glasgow for many years and Celtic wanted me to stay.

“But I had a tax problem because of the agent from Colombia who cheated me. I trusted the agent and he scammed me. I had to pay over £300,000.

“So I had to tell Celtic I was returning to my country and I have enjoyed it back at Motagua.”

Izzy will ultimately be remembered for his first spell at the club where he certainly put the graft in during this current ten in a row run the bhoys are on.

We’d love to see Izzy back on the field next season for the celebrations if we do make it ten in a row.
