Dundee United goalkeeper and once linked Celtic target, Benjamin Siegrist, has been linked with a move to English Premier League giants Manchester United.

Siegrist has spent around five years with the Tannadice side, putting in some impressive displays between the sticks, which have led to sides across the country being linked with a move for the Swiss stopper.

Some reports have even suggested that Celtic have watched Siegrist in action, whilst some fans and pundits have called for the club to attempt to sign the 30-year old as a potential backup to Joe Hart.

According to the latest reports from Sun Sport, though, the shot-stopper could be set for a surprise move down south to join Manchester United, with the Old Trafford side watching the goalkeeper, whose contract comes to an end this summer.

The report suggests that the Red Devils are currently seeking a backup option going into next season, and United scout Tony Coton knows Siegrist from his time spent with Aston Villa during the early stages of his career.

It would certainly be a surprise move to see the goalkeeper joining a side such as Manchester United, despite showing glimpses of quality whilst in Scotland.

Of course, he didn’t have the greatest of nights last week, when Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side travelled to Dundee, dropping a cross into the path of Giorgos Giakoumakis, handing the Hoops a 2-0 lead at that point in the game.

These early reports might not come to anything in the summer, but with his contract running down, it does look like the Swiss goalkeeper might be departing Tannadice in the summmer.
