Former Celtic midfielder and pundit Kris Commons has claimed that the Hoops can cause ‘psychological damage’ to Glasgow rivals Rangers with a victory at Ibrox this weekend.

It has been a few weeks since we have seen the players in club action after spending the last week or so with their international sides.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s squad are straight back into the action with the highly anticipated derby fixture, which could be key in the Hoops chances of winning back the Scottish Premiership title.

As quoted by Glasgow Live, writing in his weekly column for the Daily Mail, Commons has claimed that the Hoops could cause ‘psychological damage’ to the Ibrox side with a victory off the back of the last meeting between the two sides, which would also see Postecoglou’s side go six points clear at the top of the league.

“It’s not just the fact that Celtic would go six points clear. There are a few different things you have to consider in all of this,”

“It’s the psychological damage they could inflict on Rangers if they were to beat them on their own patch on the back of that Celtic Park annihilation.

“There’s also the fact that Rangers are still juggling their domestic ambitions with trying to make further progress in the Europa League.

“Even beyond next week’s game, I still feel there’s a vulnerability to this Rangers team domestically, and I sense that they could drop more points from now until the end of the season.

“I don’t get that same impression from Celtic at the moment. They look extremely slick and well-drilled. Postecoglou has created an animal.

“If they do go on and become champions, I feel it would rank as one of the sweetest league titles in Celtic’s history, given the shambles the club were in last summer.”

“For Rangers, it’s a game they simply cannot afford to lose as they look to defend their title.

“It will be a big test for the Celtic defence and the likes of Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter- Vickers. They have both improved steadily as the season has gone on.

“But, particularly in European games, Celtic have been exposed at the back too easily. Rangers will look to play on that and maybe plant some doubts into their minds again.”

Looking ahead to this weekend’s clash, you can’t help but feel it would be a huge moment in the title race if we were to pick up all three points in the road.

At this late stage in the season, of course, it is still all to play for. But, we are fastly approaching the business end of the campaign, with games running out.

The Bhoys face a huge task, heading to Govan to try and pick up three points on the road for the first time since the victory in 2019 under Neil Lennon. Hopefully, that is what we will see come Sunday.
