Across the globe, Celtic have a number of former players plying their trade for other clubs.

Some are closer to home and some are further away and one such player who has succeeded of late is Luca Connell.

The midfielder joined Celtic in 2019 from Bolton and after a few loan spells away from Parkhead, he eventually departed the club permanently last summer on a free transfer.

Connell joined Barnsley in English League One and after a rather prosperous 2022/23 season, the club made it to the play offs to try and get up to the Championship.

The semi finals were played out over the past week and after earning a 1-1 draw away from home, Barnsley were 1-0 victors in the second leg to secure a 2-1 aggregate win.

Particularly in the return tie, Connell was a standout.

According to stats provider FotMob, the 22 year old was man of the match.

He gained an 8.4 rating out of 10 and registered the tie winning assist.

The Irishman played a wonderful ball into the Bolton box from out wide which was right on the head of Liam Kithcing.

This turned out to the deciding goal in the tie and the one that sent Barnsley to Wembley where they will play Sheffield Wednesday for a place in the English Championship next season.

Connell will once more look to be central at England’s national stadium and help his side climb up the divisions south of the border.
