Former Celtic head of recruitment Lee Congerton is on the verge of landing one of the biggest roles in European football, with reports in Italy indicating he is set to be named as the new sporting director at AC Milan. [Sempre Milan]

Congerton, who worked alongside Brendan Rodgers during his previous spell at Celtic, is expected to step into the role as the Rossoneri look to reshape their squad following a frustrating domestic campaign. Milan looks like they are set to finish the season as low as 8th in the Serie A.

The Welshman has built a strong reputation across Europe for his work in scouting and talent development. After departing Parkhead with Rodgers in 2019, he followed the Irishman to Leicester City, helping to recruit key players during the club’s FA Cup-winning season.

He later joined Serie A outfit Atalanta in a technical role before taking a senior position at Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia.

Congerton’s time at Celtic may have drawn criticism from some quarters, but within football circles, he remains highly respected.

If the appointment is confirmed, Congerton will be tasked with leading Milan’s summer rebuild, working alongside manager Sergio Conceicao, and navigating a transfer market that is expected to be highly competitive.
