It seems like a lifetime ago since Dedryk Boyata pulled on a Celtic jersey but the defender has just entered his second season at his nee club Hertha Berlin.

The defender left Celtic on a free after refusing to sign a new deal with the Scottish champions after the treble treble.

Boyata came in from Manchester City and struggled to play under Ronny Deila. It would be Brendan Rodgers who would pluck the Belgian from Celtic obscurity to play a big role in the success of the club.

Hertha Berlin announced yesterday Boyata will be wearing the captains arm band this season for the club – the defender showing the attributes necessary to lead a team on the field.

Working under Scott Brown couldn’t have hurt!

Dedryk had a good run at Celtic in the end but he was replaced with Christopher Jullien last term and the supporters have taken to the Frenchman well.
