Falkirk goalkeeper Scott Bain has been handed a recall to the Scotland national team, his first inclusion since 2019.

The 33-year-old, who joined Falkirk in the summer after leaving Celtic, has been rewarded for his impressive form in the Scottish Premiership and will replace injured No.1 Angus Gunn in Steve Clarke’s squad for the upcoming internationals against Denmark and Greece.

Bain, who last featured for Scotland in a 2–0 win over San Marino in March 2019, has been in superb form since becoming Falkirk’s first-choice keeper. Of the goalkeepers in Clarke’s current squad, he’s the only one playing regular first-team football this season, something that may have helped sway the manager’s decision.

After years on the fringes at Celtic, where he made just 78 appearances over six seasons, Bain’s move to Falkirk has breathed new life into his career. Now, his consistent performances could see him end a six-year wait for another international cap.

It’s a brilliant turnaround for Bain, whose career looked to be stagnating at Parkhead. His form for Falkirk has been a major factor in their strong start to the campaign and this recall is just reward.

Could we see him back between the sticks for Scotland this month? Time will tell, but one thing’s certain, his move to Falkirk is paying off and it’s great to see him back in the frame.
