FORMER Celtic midfielder and coach Shaun Maloney could be in line for one of the most bizarre few months in football if reports from Spain are accurate.

The former Celtic goal hero left the club as a reserve coach only a few months ago to join up with his former boss Roberto Martinez in the Belgium international set up.

However, since Real Madrid sacked Julen Lopetegui the former Wigan and Everton boss has been heavily linked with the managerial role at the Bernabeu.

If that were to happen, it’s likely Martinez will take his own backroom team with him which would include Shaun who has already gone higher up the ladder in the setup with the departure of Thierry Henry to Monaco last month.

So the former Celtic star could go from Celtic reserve coach to part-time Belgium coach, to full-time Belgium coach, to Real Madrid coach in a matter of months.

There is no word yet if Martinez has been officially approached about the Madrid job but the Belgium FA have made it clear they would have to go through them and offer compensation for them to release their manager.
