Josip Juranovic’s dream start in Germany soon turned into a nightmare for the Croatian international.
After joining Union Berlin for £10 million in January 2023, following an impressive stint at the World Cup, Juranovic quickly became a fan favourite, with a few stunning free-kicks hitting the back of the net during the club’s Europa League run. His contributions helped secure a fourth-place finish in the Bundesliga, earning Union Berlin a coveted Champions League spot.
However, the following season proved difficult for both Juranovic and Union Berlin. The club struggled in their Champions League debut, failing to secure a win in the group stage, and their Bundesliga campaign was disappointing, barely avoiding relegation, just missing out on the relegation play offs on goal difference. Personally, Juranovic faced setbacks as well, with limited appearances due to form and fitness issues.
Now, this season, the right-back has picked up a serious ankle injury that required surgery, sidelining him indefinitely but at least into the new year. [BILD]
He’s been out and about on crutches after his surgery, but is still a long way away from taking to the pitch.
Hopefully, he can recover from the setback and get back on the pitch, with Union Berlin making a better start to the season this year.
