It was just around the time when Brendan Rodgers took charge at Celtic when Martin Skrtel was linked with a move to Parkhead on several occasions.

The former Liverpool defender was weighing up his options at the time and Brendan Rodgers was looking to bring in new stars for his Celtic revolution.

In the end, Skrtel moved to Fenerbahçe where he’s been playing since.

There was a lot of headlines in the summer Steven Gerrard wanted to bring his old teammate to Ibrox with many outlets saying they were going to sign the ‘former Celtic target’.

However, nothing came of it, and with the transfer window opening in a month, the link had reared its ugly head – only this time Skrtel’s agent felt compelled to laugh off the interest in his player from Govan under the premise they couldn’t afford his 33-year-old client.

“Financially there is no chance of Martin going to Rangers.” his agent told PLZ Soccer.

“He couldn’t get half of his wages. It would be more like a third.

“Yes, he has great respect for Steven Gerrard but there’s no point in having a discussion because financially it’s just not realistic.”
