Celtic have come under intense criticism for arranging a winter training camp in Dubai while we’re in the midst of a pandemic.

We want to make it clear, the club has done nothing wrong in a legal sense and they made sure to get the go ahead from the correct authorities before making the trip. That being said, the decision to go has proven to be an absolute disaster considering where we are today.

As of midnight the country went back into lockdown, less than 24 hours of poolside images circulated online from Dubai.

While we’re all struggling and having to come to terms with the latest restriction, our club thought it would be a good idea to pay for this jaunt.

Former St Mirren Chairman weighed into the decision, telling SunSport Celtic‘s domestic facilities should have sufficed.

“It’s absolutely unbelievable that they have gone to Dubai.

“I’ve been seeing pictures of the Celtic players strolling about together, not socially distancing and not wearing masks.

“How do you explain that?

“I understand football teams were given a dispensation to go and play games in Europe – but all of a sudden Celtic are in Dubai, not for a game.

“Let’s face it, we all think it was for a bit of a relaxation jolly. I just find it incredible.

“Celtic have got the best training ground in the country and it’s lying there empty.

“I can’t believe they’ve actually done it.”

There has been widespread frustration at the decision but there’s also been push back from people who refuse to criticise the club due to their fandom. How anyone can honestly make the case this was an inspired move given the circumstances are kidding themselves on.

We always want to be positive about Celtic but we’re not the Celtic view, or the official Celtic website; we have to call it as we see it and this has been a misfire.
