BT Sport pundit, Glen Hoodle has questioned the fitness of underpressure Celtic and Irish defender Shane Duffy.

As quoted by the Glasgow Times, the former England manager made the claim, when watching the AC Milan tie last night, after what appeared to be some poor defending by the summer signing.

“This is poor defending again one vs one (the third goal).

“I think Duffy’s been out and hasn’t played a lot of football and he looked tired at the end, he just can’t get his hips round quick enough.”

The last week has been tricky for Duffy and he has come under a lot of criticism from a large majority of the Celtic support for his performances against Rangers and AC Milan.

At the weekend, the whole team was sloppy but it a was Duffy who took a large brunt of the blame for keeping Rangers defending Connor Goldson onside for opener. Last night though, it was a more improved performance from the majority of Celtic stars on the pitch.

However, Duffy seemed to be one of the exceptions after what looked to be a poor performance of what we expected from the big man.

He hasn’t had the greatest start to his Celtic career but I still feel there is a lot to come from Duffy. Yes, in the last week he has been frustrating and poor. But with it looking like Neil Lennon is set to switch back to the tried and tested formation of four at the back, I believe this may suit Duffy’s skill set.

I do admit though, his performances need to improve or he may be looking at a spell on the bench but fingers crossed it does not come to that.
