Former First Minister and lifelong Celtic fan Humza Yousaf has shared his delight after meeting his “childhood hero,” Henrik Larsson.
The Swedish striker posed for a photograph with Yousaf on Thursday night, marking a dream moment for the Glasgow Pollok MSP.
Yousaf took to Twitter to express his joy, describing Larsson as a “lovely gent” and praising the humility of his hero:
“They say you shouldn’t meet your heroes, you will only be disappointed. Complete rubbish! I had the enormous pleasure of meeting my childhood hero Henrik Larsson last night. What a lovely gent, generous, thoughtful, and full of humility. Thank you Henrik for the memories!”

The lifelong Celtic supporter said that meeting Larsson was an experience he would always treasure.
Yousaf’s devotion to Celtic began at the age of six and has been a defining feature of his life outside politics. During his tenure as First Minister, he openly celebrated his allegiance to the Hoops, dismissing any notion of hiding his support, calling it “a bit ridiculous” on the The Rest is Politics podcast.
While he was first minister, he attended a few games at Hampden Park to watch the Hoops.
His time as First Minister was cut short when he ended the coalition with the Greens, ripping up the Bute House Agreement.
He was a voice of support for Palestine while in Scotland’s top office, and to this day, is constantly raising awareness of the ongoing conflict, calling on the UK government to end the sale of arms to Israel.
