Former Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster has insisted that Ange Postecoglou’s new look Hoops side pulled off a ‘huge result’ at Ibrox last Sunday after watching his old side extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Forster, who currently plays his football with English Premier League side Southampton, has his last spell in Glasgow during the 2019/20 campaign, which is likely to have brought a close to his Parkhead career, which spanned across five years.

Despite his departure, the England internationalist insisted that he still holds a place in his heart for the club, as he expressed his delight at last week’s result and his hope for the Hoops to have a strong end to the campaign.

“Yeah, I did watch it; I watch all of them,” he said, speaking to Sky Sports.

“As I’ve said, I love Celtic, loved my five years I’ve had there in total, and I’ll be a supporter for life ultimately.

“It was a huge result, obviously, to go away to Ibrox concede early, but to show that character and that reaction to put in a fantastic, solid team performance and come away with the three points ultimately its a huge result for them, but it’s the same as always at the top of the league, it’s never over until it’s over, so it’s going to be an interesting run-in.

“Obviously, it gives them the advantage, but there’s still one more Old Firm and plenty of points to play for, so it’s a huge result, but there’s still a lot of work to do just to get that title over the line.

“It’s a massive result to go away from home, to go to Ibrox and get these three points. It’s a huge result for them, massive confidence for the Celtic lads, so that will kick them on, and hopefully, they’ll have a very strong end to the season.”

As always, it is good to see that former players such as Forster still hold a place for the club as a supporter, despite the ending to his Parkhead career, which fizzled out due to the season being halted by Covid.

Last season was disastrous from a goalkeeping perspective, with many fans criticising Forster’s decision not to return to the club. But now we have thankfully found a replacement between the sticks in Joe Hart, who has been brilliant this season.

Having featured in the last side to win at Ibrox before Sunday, Forster will know the sort of confidence players can gain from that result, and hopefully, they are able to showcase that from now until the end of the season.
