Former Ibrox man Dorin Goian (no, me either) has told SunSport that Cluj are more than a match for Celtic before calling Neil Lennon’s side ‘long ball’ merchants.

Seemingly willing to wheel out anyone who has had a layover in Romania in the past 30 years, the Scottish media have outdone themselves – asking a guy who doesn’t watch Celtic, about Celtic.

Your first red flag would have to be the long ball comment. Something Celtic cannot be accused of in their play up to this point with Neil Lennon.

They were more stringent under Brendan Rodgers and a little more direct under Neil Lennon but to make that statement shows what you’re up against.

“Celtic isn’t a scary fixture for Cluj. Not at all.

“Cluj are capable of eliminating Celtic. Cluj have great players.

“Celtic might be a team with valuable players, a very big budget and impressive infrastructure.

“But their game consists of long balls and they have big problems when they face a well-organised defence.

“The counter-attack might be the secret weapon for Cluj. Celtic attack a lot, but they often leave room in defence.”

Goian has just described a game of football between a very attacking side and a very defensive side. Go figure.

Cluj can do nothing about Goian sticking his nose into proceedings but their sporting director was keen to try and get some mental edge talking about Celtic on Wednesday.

It seems with the game just under a week away, we’re going to get more nonsense like this.
