Former Celtic star and Invincible goalkeeper Craig Gordon has slammed the club’s recruitment since the invincible season and believes it’s why they’ve lost the ten.

Now playing for Hearts, the goalkeeper gave his thoughts on why the season has been a bust for the Parkhead side. He didn’t pull any punches and thinks this was always coming because our over-reliance on certain players without getting the proper reinforcements in to get the club over line.

Speaking on Sportscene, the player said:

“I think it’s been a gradual thing. The team that was Invincible under [Brendan] Rodgers has been eroded away.

“There’s only a few guys left. The guys that are still there have aged four or five years since then and it’s been something that’s been coming.

“Players needed to have been brought in earlier to realise what the club was all about to then step into the shoes of these players.

“It’s something that has been coming and I think the players and the more senior guys in there would probably have realised that.

“They were desperate to hang on for the Ten and make sure that happened but it really doesn’t look like that’s going to be the case now.”

Celtic have struggled this season, there’s no doubt about it and the summer recruitment drive has been very poor.

The bhoys have not even managed to muster a proper title defence after years of dominating. There were too many wantaway players and others lagging behind, and by not recruiting as best we could, we had to back to the well that got us to this point and it easy dry.

A big issue this season has been the goalkeeping, had Craig Gordon been kept on at Celtic, there’s no doubt he would be our current number one.
