Celtic brought a speight of young players in last season but the three most notable were Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Afolabi and Lee O’Connor.

Frimpong came from Manchester City while Jonathan was brought in from Southampton where he was highly rated and Lee from Manchester Utd where he’d captained their young side.

A year on and Jeremie Frimpong has made the breakthrough but the other two were sent out on loans to the Scottish Championship; Afolabi to Dunfermline and O’Connor to Partick Thistle.

We’ve not heard about the bhoys at all in pre-season so far and we’re now wondering where the pair fit in. Both came with good reputations from down south but haven’t managed to shine like Jeremie Frimpong has been able to.

O’Connor even got his first-team Ireland debut last term but still no Celtic call-up.

Will Neil Lennon be looking to bring them into the squad this year or has he seen enough to know they won’t make a difference. Afolabi is an attacker while O’Connor can play right and centre-back.

Considering Celtic have lost Jozo, could a promotion be on the cards for at least O’Connor?

Jonathan would be the fifth striker in the fold should he be promoted with very little prospect of a first team run.
