Former Celtic striker Harold Brattback has been talking to Mail Sport about the current speculation surrounding Celtic star Odsonne Edouard. The player turned pilot believes the board are in a tricky spot but if a big in the region of £40m comes in for the striker – there’s no way Celtic can turn it down in Brattback’s opinion.
“I think it would be really tough to say no to a bid of that amount [£40m]. It’s so much money.
“Financially, Celtic is still doing well. But any club would appreciate £40million right now. Also, if you sell him for that kind of money, you could buy one or two new players for maybe £10million and you’d still be left with £30million.
“This is always the discussion that you have. The club will always think about 10-in-a-row, but also about how best to run it.
“If you ask the supporters, of course, they’d all give Édouard a better contract to stay on. But it’s not that easy. The board of directors have to think about both things which makes it difficult.”
As of this moment, there have been no bids for the striker but the transfer window hasn’t really got going on the leagues which just finished in the last couple of weeks.
The transfer deadline isn’t until October 5th, which gives clubs plenty of time to test Celtic’s resolve.
£40m would be money Celtic would likely take for the Frenchman with the usual add-ons.
With the club going for ten in a row, supporters are desperate to see Edouard stay and help complete the journey. His hat-trick at the weekend highlighting how pivotal he is to this team.
Brattback is being pragmatic in what he’s saying and unless Celtic manage to convince Eddy to sign a years extension – the transfer this summer will be on the table.
