Celtic’s attention will very quickly turn towards their first Champions League as the Hoops host Real Madrid at Celtic Park on Tuesday evening.

The Scottish champions form couldn’t be any better going into this game with the Hoops having won their six league matches putting them five points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic last faced Los Blancos in 1980 in the quarter-final of the European Cup with the Hoops winning the home game at Celtic Park.

The sides have only faced each other twice competitively so anything could happen on the night.

Carlo Ancelotti has previously managed against Celtic Park but some of the Madrid players could be in for a shock come kick-off with the atmosphere created inside Celtic Park.

The stadium was rocking as the Hoops demolished Rangers 4-0 with Matt O’Riley praising the Celtic support after the game for everything they brought to the match which he insisted helped the team.

However, former Madrid icon and now director Emilio Butragueno thinks that his side will be ready to face the challenge which comes their way when they arrive in the east end of Glasgow.

“We know that Celtic in their stadium are very strong with the support of their public. And we know very well what they are like, but we are going there to win. We are the champions and we will give everything to defend that. It’s a very special tournament for this club and our supporters.”

The Hoops haven’t featured in the group stages of the Champions League for five years and there just couldn’t be a bigger match to be back in the tournament with.
