Over the years, Celtic have had their fair share of Australian connections with the likes of Scott McDonald and Tom Rogic featuring for the club.

Of course, we now also have Ange Postecoglou at the helm, who was once the Australian National Team manager and delivered an Asian Cup for his nation.

Today, another one of those Australian/Celtic connections – Mark Viduka – was introduced into the nations hall of fame.

Viduka played 43 games for Australia, scoring 11 goals whilst also captaining the side.

The striker spent time with the Hoops between 1998-2000 before making a move down south and featuring for Leeds, Middlesbrough and Newcastle United – moving on at the beginning of Martin O’Neill’s spell with the club.

In his best season in Glasgow, Viduka was voted players’ player of the year, as the club lifted the Scottish League Cup that season.

Although O’Neill attempted to convince him to stay, he was unable to do so.

It would have certainly been interesting to see how he would have faired in that side, but ultimately his departure led to the signing of Chris Sutton, and we all know how that went from there.
