Since joining the club on loan from Benfica on transfer deadline day, Jota has quickly imposed himself in the Celtic side, which is going from strength to strength under Ange Postecoglou.

The 22-year old grabbed a double in Sunday’s 4-2 win over Dundee, taking his tally to six goals and six assists in 14 games for the Hoops so far this campaign.

With the club having an option-to-buy on the Portuguese winger, his performances have led to calls from the Celtic support to get him signed on a permanent deal as soon as possible.

Former Celtic frontman Darren Jackson agrees with those calls as he urged the club to buy him now, before other sides across Europe begin to take an interest in Jota, given his recent form both domestically and in European competition.

“He’s been brilliant to watch. He just looks like he’s loving it – loving playing football and creating goals as much as scoring goals,” Jackson said, speaking to the Herald.

“I don’t know what’s in his contract, but if the option is there to go and buy him now, then, yes, I would go and buy him now.

“Get it out the way, and he’s a Celtic player because you never know who else is looking at him.

“He’s been great, and I think he puts pressure on [Liel] Abada on the other side and James Forrest and Mikey Johnston.

“It gives them fantastic options, and he’s been a revelation, really.

“I would think Celtic will be getting pressure to go and buy him now, and the fans would love that.”

The majority of the Celtic support would definitely agree with Jackson’s comments after a really impressive start to life in Green and White for the young winger.

Under Postecoglou so far, we have looked very impressive – especially in an attacking sense.

We are only a few months into his era as manager, so there is likely even more to come from this Celtic side as the months go on during the season.

The likes of Jota are at the centre of this, and signing him up on a permanent deal would come as a massive boost to everyone involved with the club.
