James Forrest has paid tribute to Celtic legend Bobby Lennox after surpassing the Lisbon Lion’s trophy haul to become the most decorated player in the club’s history.

The 33-year-old winger claimed his 26th major honour with Celtic’s Premiership title triumph at Tannadice, edging ahead of Lennox’s long-standing record of 25 trophies.

Forrest, who has been a mainstay in the Celtic first team for over a decade, spoke warmly about his admiration for Lennox and revealed he plans to visit the 81-year-old icon in the coming days.

“I’ve met Bobby a few times, but he is not keeping so great just now,” he told SunSport.

“I plan to go and see him this week.

“I have met his family too. They are all so humble and that stands you in good stead for players coming through.”

The Celtic winger’s latest honour adds another chapter to his remarkable Parkhead story, which includes multiple league titles, Scottish Cups, and League Cups since making his debut back in 2010. And he’s not finished yet.

Celtic have a Scottish Cup final to play in May. They face Aberdeen at Hampden Park in a bid to make it five trophies out of the last six, and Brendan Rodgers’ third treble as Celtic manager, although he’s claiming 3.1!

Forrest’s gesture to honour Lennox underlines the strong sense of history and respect that continues to run through Celtic Football Club, as one generation recognises the achievements of another.

Hopefully, the pair can have a nice time together when they meet this week.
