Celtic welcome Kilmarnock to Celtic Park this afternoon in the early televised kick-off, knowing three points could put them within touching distance of the title. While they can’t mathematically clinch it today, a win would pile the pressure on Rangers ahead of their trip to Pittodrie on Sunday. Should the Ibrox side slip up, the title would head back to the east end of Glasgow for the fourth year running.
The mood around Celtic took a hit last weekend after a shock defeat to bottom-placed St Johnstone. Brendan Rodgers’ side now have the chance to respond in front of their own supporters and restore momentum at a crucial stage of the campaign.
Starting XI
Viljami Sinisalo retains his place in goal, making his third league appearance since stepping in for the injured Kasper Schmeichel. The young Finnish goalkeeper will be hoping for a more comfortable afternoon after the defensive lapse at McDiarmid Park.
In defence, Alistair Johnston and Greg Taylor start in the full-back positions, with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales forming the centre-back pairing. It’s a settled back four Rodgers will be relying on to keep things tight against a Killie.
Callum McGregor anchors the midfield once again and captains the side. Arne Engels and Reo Hatate complete the midfield trio in what is now becoming a familiar combination for Celtic fans.
Up front, James Forrest makes his first start following a lengthy spell out. The experienced winger will look to add composure and quality in the final third. Daizen Maeda shifts to the wing, while Adam Idah returns to the starting lineup as the central striker.

The bench sees a mix of experience and youth, with Scott Bain, Auston Trusty, and Jota joined by Nicolas Kühn, Luke McCowan, and Daniel Schlupp. There’s also defensive cover in Maik Nawrocki, Paulo Bernardo, and Tony Ralston. Kuhn was benched at half time against St Johnstone and the manager looks like he’s sending a message this afternoon.
Victory today would edge Celtic closer to another title under Rodgers and ensure all eyes are on Aberdeen tomorrow to see if the champagne can come out early.
